"I’m gonna make 90"
I didn’t want an aide; I don’t get along well with strangers. My daughter knows me and loves me; she looks right past my attitude. With her as my aide, I think I’m gonna hit 90. You watch. I’m gonna be the first one in my family to make 90.
"A blessing"
I have multiple sclerosis. After my second hospitalization, I realized I needed help. To have my best friend be here for me is a blessing. My caseworker, Ashley, is very helpful — I feel comfortable calling anytime. And having someone I trust work for me keeps my mind at ease.
"Mom is getting stronger, and it feels so good”
We brought in a couple of aides for my mother, but I could tell she wasn’t happy. Now I get to care for Mom daily — and she’s smiling and laughing. I feel really good, knowing she’s getting stronger each day.
"Best program ever"
I’ve had aides in the past, but it always ended badly. This is one of the best programs ever. I’m so happy that my niece is helping me.

Caring for a loved one in Georgia? FreedomCare helps you understand your options — and how to get paid for the care you provide!
Yes, Georgia has Medicaid programs that allow certain family members to be paid caregivers. As long as you meet the program requirements and live in the same home as your loved one, FreedomCare can help you get set up so you receive pay for the care you’re already giving.
In Georgia, caregivers must:
The caregiver must be a family member who lives in the same home as the participant, either in their home or the caregiver’s. Spouses are not eligible to be paid caregivers in Georgia.
Yes, you can be a paid caregiver for your parent in Georgia if you live together in the same home and your parent qualifies for Medicaid. FreedomCare will walk you through the steps so you can provide care for your mom or dad while receiving the pay and support you deserve.
Georgia allows you to choose a family member to be your caregiver if you qualify for Medicaid and meet the program’s requirements. You cannot choose your spouse, legal guardian or friend. You must live in Georgia with the caregiver (whether in your home or theirs), need help with daily activities, and either be over 65 or between 21–64 with a recognized disability. It’s also important to know that Medicare alone does not qualify you — Medicaid is required.
To qualify for the Community Care Services Program (CCSP) in Georgia, you must be a Medicaid recipient, need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, or meals, and be at risk of going into a nursing home without support. If you qualify, FreedomCare can help you choose a family caregiver to provide that care right at home.
Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a Georgia Medicaid program that pays family members who live with and care for a loved one at home. Under SFC, you provide daily support, and in return, you receive a tax-free daily stipend along with ongoing coaching and support from a health professional.
